Technical Customer Assistance

Elkem’s Research and Development Centre based in Kristiansand, Norway, is probably one of the best equipped metallurgical centres in the industry. State of the art scanning electron microscopes and experts in metallographic examination give Elkem the edge when it comes to helping our customers overcome their problems. Coupled with this, Elkem has put together a team of people whose function is to provide backup to our well trained sales force globally. Each member of our team, which is known as our Competence Centre, has a specific geographic responsibility and thusas an intimate knowledge of our customers’ requirements.This means that, not only by visits to the customer, but also by rapid response communication, a solution can be with the customer just after the problem arises.

The team is also responsible for R&D within the foundry area and, over the years, has developed such well known products as Ultraseed® inoculant andCompactMag™ alloy, both revolutionising the way cast irons are produced today as end users ask for thinner wall sections, higher strengths and new alloys. In addition, our R&D has given us a unique insight into the effects of our specialist alloys on such properties as machinability and the relatively new compacted graphite iron production routes. Elkem’s unique combination of products and services for foundry metal treatment highlights our theme of “New Perspectives”.
